the scientist is optimistic. [01 Jun 2009|03:54pm]
[ mood | accomplished ]

Wow. I'm amazed we made it into the paper -- it's not a very good start on keeping our heads down, though, so once again we'd like to remind people to stay discreet about this company and our particular 'gifts'.

But I'm glad we all made it through this rough patch safely. The last two months have been hard, but we'll rebuild even bigger and better than before. And speaking of: the new offices are really quite lavish; I'd recommend you stopping by for a visit, even if it's just to learn where we're located! I'm pushing for some new services to be offered at administration, including but not limited to:

  • Housing boards (rooms for let/roommates wanted),

  • Job wanted boards (just in case someone has a nice lead),

  • Compiling contact information for community members (for easy reach in case of emergency,

  • Emergency services in general--ideally, like embassies, our offices could serve as a place of refuge and assistance,

  • References for reincarnate doctors and therapists, since we all have some very special problems to deal with, and it's best to be treated by someone who understands the circumstances involved.

If you think you can help out with any of the above, I'll say it again: feel free to volunteer. This is a community effort, after all. In the meantime: good work, all, and thank you to the people who donated. You know who you are.

i predict a riot; [13 Jan 2009|09:58pm]
[ mood | worried ]

One of my best friends is in the hospital. Which makes all my previous concerns seem quite trivial, including but not limited to: a) being amongst the legion of people who missed work due to identity-related issues, b) having turned thirty a little over a week ago (!!!), and c) not having slept properly in four days.

On the bright side, the other Moira left me some significant scientific developments on my thesis, so I'm actually a few weeks ahead of schedule now.

Again, on the quite ridiculously badly-illuminated side: Anne's in the hospital and I've got to go bring her her things and spend my night calming down a pair of tetchy men. If anyone has any well-wishes to pass on to her, I'll make sure she gets the message.

Well! My girl's coworkers are already commenting on the new Scots accent -- y'don't know how awkward it is -- so I'll be taking the rest of the day off, thank ye kindly.

Let's get started, shall we? I don't think my team is around anymore -- Sean, Rahne, Jamie, do pipe up if you're here -- but, well now, there's still a couple 'old' faces I recognise. Charles?

I rather miss the facilities of Muir Island, but just being alive will do. This'll do nicely.

dr mactaggert emerges. [20 Dec 2008|12:17am]
[ mood | thoughtful ]

Every time I get overly-stressed over something and other, I knit. It can be considered quite the accurate barometer for my mood. Would you like to see what I've accomplished since this whole ordeal began?

Which is about as useful as I've been, really, but I plan on changing that soon, if at all possible. Our recent crisis proved the necessity of force -- but I'd like to think there are ways to help the community without resorting to our fists, no less so when we have no proper fists to offer. The very least I could do is to assist others in holding us together.

So how about that Secret Santa idea someone mentioned?

I've been considering the logistics of it, and I can see some security hazards; if we wanted to take every precaution, someone would have to know every 'secret' assignment and possibly even check the presents before delivery (Fitz? X-ray vision?), to ensure nothing's been tampered with.

But it could be done. We still have a few days left for Christmas cheer.

And even if there's no time to brave the holiday rush for a group of 'strangers', there's still no reason we can't give presents in January.
